Games Development / Week 1 Homework

 Week 1 Homework

To do:

Individually come out with a game idea (or many ideas, remember the limitations), and make your first game pitch. Some lucky (or unlucky) students will be selected to do a 10-minute presentation of their game idea(s) next week on September 30. No specific format for now (we’ll do Game Design Document in a later class), so try to find the most creative and effective way to convey your game ideas. This may not end up being your Final Project, but it will still contribute to your Continuous Assessment grade. Hence, document the process in your blog. Submit the link to your blog post by Sept 29 midnight.

“I Don’t Want to Get Rich—I Just Don’t Want to Be Reaped”

My Game Pitch for Retail Trader Simulator

Core concpet:

I want to create a satirical yet authentic simulation of the retail investor experience. Starting with $10,000, players face flashing candlesticks, social media hype, and their own emotions—struggling between FOMO and panic selling. The goal isn’t to become a stock guru, but to survive.

 Inspirations:

  1. Myself Experience
  2. China Trading Market Community
  3. Educational Games

Game's core loop:

Check news → Watch stock prices → Decision (buy/sell/hold) → Sentiment changes → Settle earnings →
 Move to next day

Target:

Start investing in China's A-share market with a limited initial budget. The game adopts the same T+1 trading rules as the Chinese stock market, enhancing gameplay realism and engagement.

Each morning, in-game news releases a mix of real and fake headlines, requiring players to use their understanding of the game to discern truth from fiction.

Players must also monitor their character's emotional state throughout the game—emotional levels directly impact gameplay progression (e.g., excessive stress may cause the game to end prematurely).

To assist players, various in-game items can be used to improve performance and decision-making.

Additionally, the game features a family system: players have their own virtual family and must manage not only their own emotions but also those of their family members to maintain harmony and progress successfully.
